Chromecast with Google TV 4K Gets August 2026 Patch

Google's release notes now show a new build for the Chromecast with Google TV (4K). Here is what is in it and what is not.

Google has released a new firmware build for the Chromecast with Google TV (4K), its first update in nearly a year according to press coverage, raising the Android security patch level to August 2026. Trade reporting dates the release notes to 12 October 2026 and says they mention only bug fixes and performance improvements. The HD model is not listed with a matching update.

What Google lists

Google’s firmware versions and release notes page lists one build per device. For the 4K Chromecast it shows build UTTA.260813.002 with an August 2026 security patch level, described as other bug fixes and performance improvements. No new features are described. Rollouts are staged, so your device may not see it right away.

Builds listed on Google’s firmware page
Device Build Security patch
Chromecast with Google TV (4K) UTTA.260813.002 August 2026
Chromecast with Google TV (HD) UTTC.250917.004 October 2025
Google TV Streamer (4K) UTTK.260317.003 April 2026

The Streamer entry also lists Google Home Speaker audio output support and Thread credential sharing, per the same page.

How to check your device

Open the settings menu on your Chromecast, find the system update option and look for a pending build. Google’s help article on Chromecast and Google TV Streamer updates explains how updates are delivered. If a build is waiting, let it finish before you restart the device.

What it means for Canadian households

A security patch is not a feature release, so you will not notice new screens. It does mean the 4K model, which many Canadians still use as a second-room streamer, is still being maintained. If you use one for apps, see our walkthrough for IPTV on Chromecast with Google TV and the devices page.

Two cautions apply. First, Google’s page does not give release dates, and its own last-updated line looks stale, so the 12 October date comes from press coverage of the release notes rather than from Google. Second, the HD model still shows an October 2025 patch level, so owners of that model should not expect the same fix until Google lists a new build for it.
