IPTV EPG Not Loading? Fix the Guide Step by Step

Empty guide, 'No information', or everything an hour off? Match your symptom to a cause, then work through six ordered fixes for Canadian time zones, cache and guide addresses.

An empty guide is usually a clock or cache problem, not a dead service.

An IPTV guide that is blank, stuck on “No information” or an hour off almost always comes down to the clock, the app cache, or an outdated guide download. Fix it in that order: set the device to your correct time zone, clear the app’s cache, then force a guide refresh. Look at how the guide is wrong first, because the symptom tells you which step to start with.

The pattern of failure points at the cause. Spend 30 seconds matching yours.

Guide symptoms, likely cause and where to start
What you see Likely cause Start with
Whole guide empty, “No information” Guide never downloaded, or app cache corrupt Force refresh, then clear cache
Programs shown exactly 1 hour early or late Daylight saving or wrong time zone on the device Device time zone
Programs off by 2, 3 or 4 hours Device set to another Canadian zone, or the app has a manual time shift Device time zone, then app time offset
Some channels have a guide, others do not Channel IDs do not match the guide data Channel mapping in the app

Step 1: Fix the device clock and time zone

A guide is a schedule written in a fixed time standard. Your app converts it to local time using the device’s settings, so a wrong zone shifts every row. Canada makes this easy to get wrong: Newfoundland is half an hour ahead of Atlantic time, most of Saskatchewan stays on Central Standard Time all year, and a TV bought in Alberta and moved to Ontario keeps its old setting until someone changes it.

  1. Fire TV: Settings > Preferences > Time Zone. Choose your zone, not “Automatic” if it keeps picking the wrong one.
  2. Android TV and Google TV: Settings > System > Date & time. Turn on “Automatic date & time”, and set the time zone manually if the automatic one is wrong.
  3. Samsung and LG: open the general settings and find the time or clock section. Set the time zone to your city.
  4. Windows PC: Settings > Time & language > Date & time, then “Sync now”.

What you should see: the clock matches your phone. Re-open the IPTV app and check whether the guide rows now line up. If a correct clock still leaves the guide an hour off, jump to Step 5.

Step 2: Force the app to refresh the guide

  1. Close the IPTV app completely, not just back to the home screen. On Fire TV, press and hold Home, choose the app and close it; on Android TV, use the recent apps screen.
  2. Re-open the app and find its guide or EPG settings. Wording varies by app: “Refresh EPG”, “Update EPG”, “Reload guide” or a playlist-level update option. In TiviMate, for instance, this sits under the playlist’s settings.
  3. Run the update and leave it alone for several minutes. A large guide file can take a few minutes to download and process, and a half-open guide on the first minute is normal.

If your guide worked a week ago and is empty now, this step alone fixes it more often than any other, because many apps only refresh the guide on a schedule.

Step 3: Clear the app cache (before data)

Cache is temporary stored guide data, and a corrupt copy keeps being reused even after a refresh. Clearing it deletes only temporary files, not your login. Clearing app data removes the login and playlist too, so only do that if cache clearing fails and you have your login details to hand.

  1. Fire TV: Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > select the IPTV app > Clear cache.
  2. Android TV / Google TV: Settings > Apps > See all apps > select the app > Clear cache.
  3. Re-open the app and trigger a guide refresh as in Step 2.

Our separate cache clearing guide shows the same steps with the exact screens, including when a full device restart helps.

Step 4: Check the guide address and playlist

Some apps get the guide from the same login as the channels. Others need a separate guide address, sometimes called an XMLTV or EPG URL. If the app has an EPG field and it is blank, the guide will not load, however many times you refresh.

  • Open the playlist settings and look for an EPG or guide address field.
  • If it is empty, ask support whether your plan supplies a separate guide address, and paste it exactly with no trailing space.
  • If you use a different app from the one your provider recommends, confirm the setup steps with them, since formats differ. Our guide to Xtream-style and M3U logins explains which login carries the guide.
  • Re-sync or re-add the playlist if the app offers it, then refresh the guide again.

Step 5: Correct a persistent time offset

Many players include a manual setting to shift guide times, often labelled “EPG time shift”, “time offset” or “timezone correction”. It is meant for cases where the guide data is correct but the app mis-converts it.

Use it as a last step, not a first, and change one thing at a time:

  1. Note the gap (for example the guide is one hour early).
  2. Set the offset by that many hours in the opposite direction.
  3. Check a live channel where you know the schedule, such as a news hour that starts on the hour.
  4. Do not stack a manual offset on top of a wrong device time zone, because the two cancel each other until daylight saving changes and then you are an hour out again.

Step 6: Fix channels that have no guide

If most rows fill but a handful stay blank, those channels are not matched to guide data. This happens when a channel is renamed, a regional version has no schedule, or the playlist carries a different ID than the guide uses. Open the channel’s settings in the app and look for “EPG source” or “match” options. Many apps let you pick the guide entry manually, which fixes it for that channel permanently.

If the blank channels are French-language or from another region, ask us whether a guide exists for them. Some regional or specialty feeds do not have one. We would rather say so than let you chase a fix that cannot exist.

If X, do Y

  • If the guide is empty on every channel: run Step 2 (refresh), then Step 3 (cache), then Step 4 (guide address).
  • If everything is exactly one hour out: Step 1, and check whether the device has “automatic time zone” switched on while the clock is on a different zone.
  • If it only breaks after a restart: the app may be failing to save the guide. Check device storage: Fire TV Stick units run short of space, and Settings > My Fire TV > About > Storage shows how much is free. Remove unused apps.
  • If it works on Wi-Fi in one room but not another: the download is timing out. Move closer to the router for the refresh, or use Ethernet. See Wi-Fi versus Ethernet.
  • If video also buffers: the guide is a symptom. Start with our buffering fixes.

Why this keeps happening, and how to stop it

A guide is a separate data file, usually in XMLTV format, loaded on a schedule alongside your channel list. It can fail while video plays perfectly, which is why people think the whole service is broken when only the guide is. For a neutral explanation of the concept, see Wikipedia’s page on the electronic program guide and on the XMLTV format. Our own explainer, the EPG explained, covers how the data moves from source to screen.

To reduce repeat problems: keep the device time zone set and checked after any move or power cut, leave at least a few hundred megabytes of storage free, and set the app to refresh the guide daily if the option exists. Restarting the router and device once a fortnight clears the temporary faults that otherwise build up.

When to contact support

If you have done all six steps, tell us what you did, the device, the app and the exact symptom from the table above. A line like “Fire TV Stick 4K, TiviMate, entire guide empty since Tuesday, cleared cache and refreshed” lets us check the guide source at our end. My IPTV Canada has English and French help via WhatsApp and email on the contact page, and the FAQ covers other common setup questions. Within the first 60 days of an eligible new paid subscription, the money-back guarantee also applies if a problem cannot be resolved; see the guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my IPTV EPG not loading?

The usual causes are a wrong device time zone, a corrupt app cache, a guide that never downloaded, or no guide address entered in the app. Match the symptom first: a fully empty guide points to refresh and cache, an hour out points to time zone.

Why is my IPTV guide showing the wrong time?

The app converts guide times using the device's time zone, so a wrong zone shifts every row. A gap of exactly one hour is often daylight saving or a time zone mismatch. Fix the device clock first, then use an app time offset only if needed.

How do I clear the cache for an IPTV app on Fire TV?

Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, select the IPTV app, then choose Clear cache. This removes temporary files, not your login. Reopen the app and refresh the guide. Only clear data if cache clearing fails.

Why does my IPTV guide only work for some channels?

The missing channels are not matched to guide data, often because of a different ID, a renamed channel or no available schedule for that regional feed. Check the channel's EPG source setting in your app and pick the correct entry manually.

How long does an IPTV guide take to load?

A large guide file can take several minutes to download and process, especially on Wi-Fi or a low-storage device. Give it at least five minutes after a refresh before concluding it failed, and avoid closing the app during the download.

Does IPTV EPG need a separate URL?

Sometimes. Some logins carry the guide with the channel list, while others need a separate XMLTV or EPG address. If your app has a blank EPG field, ask your provider for the guide address for your plan.
