Denis Villeneuve’s final trip to Arrakis has a firm date. Dune: Part Three opens in Canadian theatres on Friday, December 18, 2026, the same day as in the United States, after international markets begin on December 16. Here is what is confirmed about the release, the cast and story, the IMAX question, and what to expect before it reaches home screens.
Dune 3 release date in Canada
- Canadian release: Friday, December 18, 2026, listed by Warner Bros. Canada
- International rollout: from December 16, 2026
- Distributor: Warner Bros. Pictures, with Legendary Pictures
- Where: theatres only at launch, including IMAX
Some chains have scheduled Thursday, December 17 preview screenings, which is common for a release this size. Check your local theatre’s listing, as early shows vary by location. Canadian chains such as Cineplex and Landmark Cinemas publish showtimes as sales open.
A Québec director closes his trilogy
Villeneuve, who grew up in Québec and began his career in Canadian film, directs again and co-wrote the screenplay with Brian K. Vaughan. The story adapts Dune Messiah, Frank Herbert’s 1969 follow-up to Dune. It picks up years after Dune: Part Two, with Paul Atreides now emperor and the consequences of the holy war fought in his name closing in around him. Hans Zimmer returns for the score.
The cast
- Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides
- Zendaya as Chani
- Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan
- Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica
- Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides
- Jason Momoa as Hayt, a ghola made in the image of Duncan Idaho
- Robert Pattinson as Scytale, the Tleilaxu Face Dancer
- Javier Bardem as Stilgar and Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck
- Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam
IMAX, film formats and why tickets went fast
The film was shot mostly on 65 mm film, with selected sequences on IMAX film cameras, and it opens with a three-week IMAX exclusivity window before expanding to other premium formats such as Dolby and ScreenX. That window is also why Avengers: Doomsday, released the same day, will not play on IMAX screens in North America at launch. IMAX 70 mm presales, offered at a small number of locations, sold out within minutes earlier this year, according to the film’s production and release record. If a specific format matters to you, book as soon as your theatre opens sales.
When will Dune: Part Three stream at home?
No streaming or digital date has been announced. As a guide only, Warner Bros. films have usually moved from theatres to digital rental and then to the studio’s streaming partner some weeks later. In Canada, Warner Bros. and HBO content has streamed on Crave under Bell Media’s long-running agreement, and Bell has said that content will remain on Crave for the foreseeable future. Until Warner Bros. confirms a date, treat any “streaming on” claim you see online with caution.
Catch up before December
Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024) together run more than five hours, so a two-night rewatch is the usual plan. A few tips for a proper home screening:
- Both films have very wide dynamic range and deep bass. If your TV has a filmmaker or cinema picture mode, use it, and turn off motion smoothing.
- For 4K streaming, a steady connection matters more than a headline speed. Our guide on internet speed for streaming explains what 4K actually needs.
- If the picture stutters on a streaming stick, our walkthrough on clearing cache on Firestick and Android TV often fixes it.
A note on new releases and TV services
New theatrical films are released by their studios on their own schedule, and no TV subscription can promise a particular film on any particular date. Our service includes a large on-demand library alongside live channels, but titles change and we will not claim that any specific film is or will be included.
